Biking On Kauai

Bike Rental

There are plenty of options for bike rentals on Kauai, with a majority of them being in Kappa/Wailua, due to the perfect bike path that cruises along the ocean. Most bike rental places in Kapaa, charge from $15-$30 a day for just your regular beach cruiser, which is what most people think of when they imagine themselves coasting alongside the ocean.  If you have kids that can’t ride a bike yet, many of rental shops have the bike trailers, and if your youngster has “mastered” the art of riding a bike, they also offer kid sized bikes.

For those of you looking to keep up on your training regiment or just plain want to explore Kauai by bike, a few shops also offer nice road bike options, ranging from $30-$50 a day. Just keep in mind a lot of Kauai’s roads don’t have very big shoulders to ride on, so you will be riding with the cars.

If you are wanting to go up and explore Waimea Canyon’s vast amount of bike trails, then you should rent a mountain bike, they range from $30-$50 a day. Make sure you are careful while riding as every trail has something new around each corner.

Side note: All shops decrease the daily price if you rent for more then one day.

Bike Path on Kauai

Ke Ala Hele Makalae or “the path that goes by the coast” describes the scenic multi-use path that runs along the beautiful East Side of Kauai and will eventually follow the Kauai east coast from Nawiliwili to Anahola. Currently, this newly opened Kauai bike path offers breathtaking ocean and coastline views starting in South Kapaa and winding North past downtown up to Kealia Beach.

The Bike path is around 7-8 miles and it’s a great activity that’s free and fun for the whole family. Visit popular east side restaurants, eclectic shops, and many amazing East Side beaches on this self-guided path along Kauai’s Coconut Coast. This beautiful Kauai path is used by walkers, runners, and cyclists. Dogs are welcome on the path as long as they are kept on a leash and cleaned up after. You can even adopt a dog for the day at the Kauai Humane Society.

If you are visiting and need to rent a bike for your adventure there are many rental shops to choose from and prices vary from $5-$20 for the day, just depending on how fancy of a bike you are looking for.
